T he results of the bylaws vote to adopt the recom- mended name change of "Association for Legal Information" were announced ursday, February 11. e recommendation was defeated—80 percent opposed to 20 percent in favor. A record 60 percent of members responded. In an AALL E-briefing issued on February 17, AALL President Keith Ann Stiverson remarked, "I am thrilled by the participation. A lively discussion has begun, and it is clear that members want to have input, and to be a part of a conversation about the future of our Association and the profession as a whole. It is a critical time for all of us, and your participation is vital." She acknowledged that the lively discourse has led to an "even greater understand- ing of our members and the importance of how they identify themselves profes- sionally; this greater understanding will inform the remainder of the project." e branding initiative began in March 2015, and members have been involved every step of the way, beginning with one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders held through April 2015 and followed by a branding survey that was sent to the full membership in May. Additionally, member interests have been represented in the project by the Brand Working Group composed of: the Executive Board; the Special Interest Section (SIS) and Chapter Council Chairs; and representatives from the Academic Law Libraries, Government Law Libraries, and Private Law Librarians and Information Professionals SISs. e Brand Working Group has been fully engaged in every step of the process. e project encompasses much more than our name. Everything a company or organization does defines its brand; from its logo to the text on a webpage, from the way a phone is answered to the verbiage in an out-of-office reply.
