Danner began his career as a law librar- ian at the University of Wisconsin Law School serving as a student assis- tant, before becoming the head of periodicals and eventually the environmental law librarian. Aer receiving his JD from Wisconsin in 1979, he started at Duke University School of Law as associate director of the law library and professor; in 1981, he was promoted to senior associate dean. In 2003, he was appointed as the Archibald C. and Frances Fulk Ruy research professor of law. One of his nominators stated that Danner is "an innovative, energetic, and dedicated leader in the law library profession. He has been a committed administrator, a productive scholar, a creative teacher, and an active mem- ber of AALL and other professional organizations. Dick has excelled in all aspects of his multifaceted career, which encompasses both legal educa- tion and law librarianship." Danner has long been recognized as a leader in the profession. He served as AALL's president in 1990 as well as president of the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries. His remarkable service to the Association has gone well beyond his role as president: he also served as editor of Law Library Journal for 10 years. He has received numerous awards and honors from AALL for this work, including the Hall of Fame award in 2014. Danner has written for a wide variety of journals and has published several books. He won the Matthew Bender Call for Papers Award for his inuen- tial article, "Redening a Profession," published in volume 90, number 3, of RICHARD A. DANNER AWARD SEASON Gallagher Award Celebrates Outstanding Achievement T he American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Awards Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award: Richard A. Danner, Karl T. Gruben, and Gitelle Seer. Established to recognize outstanding, extended, and sustained service to law librarianship, to the Association, or for contributions to professional literature, this award is the Association's highest honor. In addition, new Gallagher Award recipients who have not previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame automatically become members. This year's recipients will be recognized at the Association Luncheon on Tuesday, July 18, during the AALL Annual Meeting in Austin. The members of the Awards Committee are chair Katrina M.
